Primare's superb SP31 processor provides the inspiration for the design of the SPA21 integrated A/V amplifier. In its latest incarnation the SPA21 offers both exceptional stereo and multi-channel performance.
The SPA21 utilises Primare’s own proprietary DSP engine, which combines with superior analogue circuitry to deliver a class-leading range of processing options (including a 7.1 channel mode) and an elevated standard of multi-channel audio and video reproduction.
The SPA21 disproves the idea that exceptional stereo performance from analogue sources must be compromised by the inclusion of digital processing and video circuitry. The SPA21 is designed as three totally separate units mounted in one chassis: a pure analogue stereo preamplifier, a high quality 7.1 channel Dolby® Digital and dts processor with full video switching, and a high quality 5 x 100 watt per channel power amplifier. All sections have their own discrete power supplies.
When configured to operate as a full 7.1 processor, the SPA21’s, internal front channel amplifiers can be rerouted to surround back channel duties. In such an arrangement, the A30.2 power amplifier can be fully exploited to drive the system’s front channel speakers.
All current Dolby and dts formats are provided, including 192 kHz/24 bit processing. In addition, the SPA21 incorporates a 7.1 channel “pure analogue input” for DVD-A and SACD sources, such as Primare’s own DVD30 universal disc player.
Designed to accommodate virtually any speaker combination, the SPA21 offers many of the features of the more expensive SP31.7 processor. The most fundamental of these is the ability to run independent crossover points and output levels for every speaker in every surround format. Enabling, for example, the front channels to operate at full range when listening to music, but with a 60Hz crossover point for Dolby Digital and an 80Hz crossover for dts. Output levels of all channels can also be optimised for each playback format.
To cater for today’s high definition video and audio formats, the SPA21’s array of inputs is extensive, providing four digital inputs and nine video inputs. Optical, Coaxial, Composite, S-Video, and Component Video are all supported.
The SPA21 is designed for easy custom installation via discrete IR inputs, source assignable triggers and an upgradeable RS232 interface. Intuitive on-screen menus and ergonomics provide straightforward set-up and operation.
When combined with the DVD26 or DVD30 source components, the SPA21 will deliver the power and control for an exceptional music and home theatre system.
